Michael Augros' "Who Designed the Designer?" is the closest thing I know of to a book length discussion of the second way and how it proves not just a generic first cause, but something that most people would be willing to call "God".

If Feser is correct and the 2nd way is really about existence/essence, then I'd recommend Barry Miller ("From Existence to God" and "A Most Unlikely God").

Brian Davies has a good discussion of the 2nd way in the chapter on God's existence in his Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion, and also in his longer guide to the STh.

Thank you, I'll check them out. I have Augros' book on my shelf but never got around to it.
