Theoretical Philosophy » Illustration of per se causal series for a church class » 1/14/2016 11:02 pm

Hi everyone
I have been working on some material for a class at church on the Five Ways, and I have been trying to think of some simple illustrations of a per se causal series that I could trace all the way to God so that the class could see how this works. I have been thinking about starting with a passage like Psalm 104:14 that speaks of God causing the grass to grow, and then moving through the series of causes. Do any of you have some ideas of a good way of how to do this, step by step, from a simple, observable phenomenon like growing grass all the way up the chain to God?
Thanks in advance!
Shane

Thanks for replying Seth! I just send in my application. Gonna try one class and see how it goes. Are you pursuing further grad work in philosophy?

Hi everyone
Since I have discovered Aquinas I have become so interested in Thomistic philosphy I have thought about going back to grad school (I figure I might as well get some credit for all the reading I've been doing!). I found one school that offers an online program - Holy Apostles College and Seminary (http://www.holyapostles.edu/college/master-of-arts/philosophy/). Do any of you know anything about this school? Or any other options that are online?
Thanks!
Shane

Hi Timocrates-
I am not a Catholic, but I have great admiration for Aquinas and for many of the excellent Catholic philosphers and apologists I have come to learn about thru Feser's website.

Hi everyone
My name is Shane Scott. I live outside of Tampa FL. I have an MA in Theology, and have been preaching for 25+ years, but sadly had not really learned much about Aquinas until I stumbled across Ed Feser's work. Over the last year I have immersed myself in Thomism, and really feel like a kid at Christmas! Thanks for putting this forum together!
