I think I'm going to aim to write a blog article on the Incarnation for the Christmas holidays. If I do, I'll link it here. If I don't, I'll try to at least post something in this thread (or an equivalent one on the new forum).

It's unfortunate, but philosophy is such a big subject that even though I get to spend most of my days doing philosophy I end up having to force myself to look away from a lot of philosophy I find interesting.

Just a note that the new software arrived and is in the middle of being setup. Either Brian or I will make an announcement (in this thread) in a couple weeks.

I find him very angry! Haha. And he's not quite good enough at it to catch my attention. (For a good example of eloquent ranting, see Achilles's reply to Odysseus in book nine of the Iliad.) But then he's writing for a very specific audience, and I'm not part of it.

Anyway, I was just joking around. (20015 is a typo, right? I might have misunderstood.)

Who is this angry man from the future?

No. That was a “Though, if you're planning to start writing more like a continental, I ask that you avoid certain pitfalls a lot of continentals fall into” kind of comment.

Hard to say, since I've always been something of a continentalist trying to fit myself into analytic categories. It tends to create more confusion than it solves.

So stop doing it!
I seriously doubt that I'm the only one on here familiar with continental literature, and where we don't understand we can just ask for clarification or translation. The only thing I ask is that you avoid the kind of deliberate obscurantism Foucault famously quipped about. (I think the analytic-leaning philosophers on here do a pretty good job of avoiding the opposite danger, of insisting on a sort of specious clarity even when grubbing at the limits of intelligibility.)

I'm curious: How much has your position changed from when you posted here?

I, unfortunately, put off so many things while I was busy that I'm now busy catching up on all the things I put off. I see, however, that Vallicella has started posting about White's The Incarnate Lord, and that his combox is open. I urge everyone to read his posts and engage with him if they have questions or objections.

I'll probably be busy again by the time I'm done being busy. But I haven't forgotten about you.

Just a note that it doesn't look like we're going to have enough people for this (a blessing, for me, really).

I can't help but feel like we haven't really done the title question justice. Here is a reiteration, taking into account some of the replies so far:

1. What is the modern metaphysical picture of reality? (i. the "popular" picture or picture among nonphilosophers. ii. the picture in philosophy.)
2. Why did the modern metaphysical picture of reality prevail? (i. among nonphilosophers. ii. among philosophers.)
