I was just cruising along on the highway, nothing crazy, and suddenly the EPC light comes on, the car loses power, and it starts shaking like it's misfiring – honestly one of the scariest moments I've had in a while because I was in the middle lane with traffic all around me and no immediate place to pull over. I managed to limp it to the shoulder, turned the engine off, waited a minute, and restarted it, and the light went away and it drove fine for the rest of the trip, but now I'm absolutely paranoid that something serious is lurking under the hood just waiting to fail again at the worst possible moment. I've been reading up on Audi EPC issues and it seems like it could be anything from a simple coil pack or spark plug problem all the way to something more complex like the throttle body or even the fuel system, which is obviously a huge range of possibilities and costs. I really don't want to go to the dealer because their diagnostic fee alone is insane and I've had mixed experiences with their service quality in the past, so I'm trying to find a specialist who actually knows these cars properly. I came across while searching for options and it seems like they focus on European cars, but I wanted to ask the community – has anyone dealt with an intermittent EPC light like this and found it was something relatively minor, or am I looking at a big repair bill? Also, any recommendations for a shop that can properly diagnose this without just throwing parts at it until the problem goes away? Really appreciate any advice because I'm losing sleep over this.
