Rubio says the college shouldn't be for studying Greek Philosophy

Hi everyone!

I happened to be watching CSPAN today and Marcio Rubio was on talking at some Republican forum in Iowa. He said something that is so anti-intellectual I could hardly believe what I was hearing.  I don't have the exact quote, but he was saying that, if President, he would totally transform the entire college educational system. He insisted that America needs to lead the world in training people for skilled jobs and the last thing we need is for our kids to waste four years studying Greek Philosophy. (Trust me on this, that was the jist of the quote.)

So, another philistine running for President? I swear, if most of these politicans had it their way, college would be 100% job training. No liberal arts degrees because they don't lead to making a lot of money.  I think what this country needs is more studying of Greek Philosophy! Why is it always philosophy that gets declared useless by these politicians who want to reform college education? How come people can't associate studying philosophy with anything other than a waste of time?

When the feeling is of economic decline or crisis a focus on what's actually and truly important seems foolish- as dignity and truth seem foolish to the starving. Of course, when people are fed, they remember that a full stomach is not their end and purpose in living.

It is precisely “values” that are the powerless and threadbare mask of the objectification of beings, an objectification that has become flat and devoid of background. No one dies for mere values.

This man is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Either that or he is living proof to the effectivness of the lies of the Illiberal's propaganda. His 'god-of-the-belly' philosophy is the death of real education. An education is not a work-training seminar program. It cultivates firstly the human mind and intellect. It trains CITIZENS first and foremostly; workers, secondly and as those same citizens thus empowered by their education then freely choose.

This man is just another mental midget trying to force his own stupidity down everyone else's throats.
